hello, i remember speaking to Area about this issue before

but briefly here is what happened;

i took tramadol (it has an SSRI component) for 7 months and got addicted

i have not taken any tramadol in over 2 years now and 2 issues remain

PSSD which i believe to be is mild. but the main issue is no euphoria/buzz from alcohol

i remember area mentioning 'mianserin' which im trying to get hold of. but i came here to double check thats correct?

Area said the tramadol has desensitised my receptors and mianserin would help improve my situation

thank you for your time

Yes Mianserin will help by disinhibiting dopamine and antagonizing serotonin; creating a favorable balance. Alcohol, like other drugs/substances, precipitates addiction by altering c-Fos/FOS-ir expression in the nucleus accumbens and other dopaminergic pathways. The buzz and reinforcement depends on the activation of that pathway and the subsequent molecular changes, you need to have serotonin under control in order for that activation to occur properly. Smile

You should try it for at least 2-3 weeks, unless you have side-effects, then I'd discontinue it.

I wouldn't say that, there will be something that will work we just have to try a wide variety of tools to get there. Cool

I don't know. Some members here take breaks if you're noticed. They will come back all of a sudden after a week or two of inactivity.

Update: well its been about 12 days on mianserin and sadly no euphoria from alcohol Sad

i'm wondering if this naltrexone issue (too much kappa activation) is the culprit?

either way, im going to keep taking mianserin for at least 6 weeks

Keep taking it and report back here.
You could try adding Amentoflavone; which is a kappa-opioid antagonist.
Study : https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2265593/
You need to use it with black pepper extract and other absorption enhancers, though.

Ok so still no euphoria from alcohol but also this issue i had with naltrexone

I have recently taken codeine in dosages as high as 300+mg's and relieved no euphoria, just crazy itching - naltrexone has clearly done some damage as i am opiate naive

It's approaching 10 weeks of Mianserin, no side effects

Opiates release histamine, so they can cause itching.
I would advise against using them.
The absence of a euphoric reaction to Alcohol is not a surprise, but maybe we are leaning more to a central dopamine/glutamate problem as well. Mianserin is probably taking care of some aspects of the catecholamine balance, but maybe you need more L-Tyrosine to stimulate the dopamine receptors.

I'm just terrified of what naltrexone has done to me, it shouldn't still be blocking the effects of opiates, Doctors either say 'it's impossible' or that i'm making it all up, it's all in my head. What ever has happened seems permanent

It would be nice if CERC-501 would be approved by FDA sooner, than later. Its a selective Kappa-opioid antagonist!

Naltrexone shouldn't have permanent effects, there are people who have used it for 3-4 months at a time - then additionally when tapering off Opiates. Some have needed it by IV - and in these cases never really have any long-term issues. At least not that are consistently documented. This shouldn't still be an issue.

Where did you buy the Naltrexone from?  Was it a reliable source or did you get it from a Doctor. Did he use a compounding pharmacy or direct script?

It shouldnt but it has, something has happened and i wish it was all 'in my head' but there is no euphoria from codeine at 320mg's and i am opiate naive.

I bought naltrexone online, from a pharmacy abroad. so obviously they cant be classed as reliable. so maybe it was fake? or full of chemicals that have damaged me? it came packed properly. The brand was 'Naltima', orange and white box.

interesting to note, the most recent doctor i saw said to me if naltrexone was still blocking and i was to take an opiate i would get diarrhoea, as opiates slow down the bowel and naltrexone blocks the opiates action - took codeine multiple times and had no diarrhoea, it actually made me constipated which is what opiates usually do. strange

That's very strange Forthis, it almost seems like its a combination of factors.
1.) That you have some Gene that is making your opioid-receptors upregulate too quickly.
2.) That the Naltrexone was either totally bunk or contained nasty preservatives/coatings.

Were the Naltrexone tablets dissolvable or chunky? What color were the tablets. As far as I know, Legit Naltima tablets are usually yellowish.

Try uploading your DNA to Promethease, you can order a genetic Ancestry testing kit and then give the output file (once DNA is determined) to see if there is something in your DNA that promotes excessive dynorphin or other opioid-related activities in your nervous system. It seems odd, for sure. I'm not really sure what to make of it.[/b]

yes the tablets were a yellowish colour. they pretty much did what naltrexone is meant to do, blocked the euphoria of opiates. i did not have any adverse effects while taking it. that was 2 years ago though and i get told over and over how its 'impossible' to block forever, but it must have. i dont think they were bunk. i have searched the net for answers, none. i am seriously depressed and lost, i feel hopeless

Very very strange. They are the right ones then (hopefully), still doesn't rule out contamination or poor tablet coating.
